Defaulting on Student Loans
Wondering what happens if you default on your student loans? Here are some important things to keep in mind:

  • You might not be able to get additional student aid if you want to go back to school.

If you're finding it tough to make your student loan payments, don't worry – there are options available to help you out:

  • Income-Driven Repayment plans
  • Deferment
  • Forbearance

How do I find my loan servicer?
Wondering how to find out who your loan servicer is? When you leave school, you’ll get a 6-month grace period before your payments start. About 45 days before your first payment is due, your loan servicer will reach out with all the details you need to get started. You can also log in with your FSA ID here to find your loan servicer: studentaid.gov.
